Wolf-Gordon Introduces Crossings by Dorothy Cosonas
New Textile Collection Inspired by Embroidered Heirlooms

Odyssey

Fable

| New York, NY - June 10, 2024 | Acclaimed textile designer Dorothy Cosonas has developed an upholstery collection consisting of four patterns—Fable, Dreamweaver, Odyssey and Sampler—for Wolf-Gordon. “Crossings” is a highly personal collection honoring the culture, education, and craft of the designer’s late mother.  The name “Crossings” represents the physical construction of the warp and wefts— the vertical and horizontal threads that form the foundation of fabric— as well as the intellectual and cultural intersections of her mother's life. Originally from a small fishing village in Lesbos, Greece, Cosonas’ mother attended a finishing school run by French nuns before immigrating to the United States. The resulting fusion of Greek, French, and American influences can be seen throughout the four patterns.

“A theme for the collection is the reveal of each pattern — from a distance there is the overall pattern and color, but up close, the textiles’ smaller details and craft become clear. Understanding the deeply sentimental connection and intersections that inspired the collection adds another dimension to Crossings, and we are honored to have these special designs join the Wolf-Gordon catalog.”

Marybeth Shaw, Chief Creative Officer, Design & Marketing

The four upholstery patterns in multiple colorways were designed to be combined and presented with other current Wolf-Gordon offerings, all of which meet and exceed ACT (Association of Contract Textiles) standards. Wolf-Gordon upholstery textiles are designed for a variety of interiors including hospitality, corporate, healthcare, education, retail, and residential.

Patterns

Dreamweaver, the collection’s foundation, is a soft plaid achieved through a warp and intersecting wefts composed of the same seven yarns, including a slub yarn to provide subtle texture and a hand-crafted feel. For each variation, the eye perceives both the balanced placement and the intersection of yarn colors to create a surface design that is both familiar and striking. Dreamweaver’s construction includes post-consumer recycled polyester and is available in nine colorways.

Sampler takes direct inspiration from the mending practice taught to Cosonas’ mother at the convent school. Exploring the notion of organized chaos seen in stitchwork to mend holes in woven textiles, the final pattern features two yarns— one matte and one high luster— embroidered in an eclectic all-over visual texture. Sampler is available in five colorways and is finish-free.

Cosonas derived Odyssey from embroidery samples in which the symmetrical crossover and repetitive linework fade in and out across the surface. The final fabric is a large-scale, tri-colored, soft-lined organic grid printed with a soothing watercolor effect. Available in five colorways, Odyssey is highly durable and appropriate for use in a variety of environments.

Fable, a small-scale tri-colored pattern, feels somewhat weathered with the yarns intentionally appearing and disappearing in an imitation of the symmetrical crossover of the stitch work that has lasted through the years. The resulting quiet tonal shifts across the design’s surface play out across ground colors of warm and cool neutrals with contrasting calm, saturated, or bright weft yarns. Fable’s construction includes post-consumer recycled polyester.
