Thomas Cooper Studio to Debut Alabaster Fixtures
Mathematically Minded Designs Showcasing Honest Craftsmanship
| Los Angeles, CA - May 15, 2024 | Thomas Cooper Studio, the bespoke East Los Angeles-based lighting brand led by Jason Kai Cooper and Sally Thomas Cooper, will debut their Spring 2024 Collections at ICFF 2024 in booth #635 at the Jacob Javits Center May 19-21 2024. The new introductions— Cento, Faro, and Prima— meld geometric silhouettes of intersecting planes, ellipses, and cubes with the natural elements of alabaster to create architecturally inspired organic designs.
After years of working with Tuscan quarries to source alabaster for their other lighting brands, the design duo has developed a deep appreciation for the material's ability to provide a soft diffusion of light and the heritage techniques practiced by the quarries to ensure premium quality. Dating back to early civilizations, alabaster has long been preferred for its semi-opaque quality that gives sculptures and decorative pieces carved from the material a unique warmth and delicateness.
“We’ve worked with the alabaster quarries in Tuscany for many years now and are inspired by their commitment to craft and quality,” says Sally Thomas Cooper. “The region has a deep history with the material that the quarries we are working with truly understand.”
“Alabaster’s warm tones provide an almost life-like effect when used as a light diffuser, which makes it very interesting to work with. For the Spring 2024 Collections, we explored how an element with a strong natural feel can work with more geometric shapes and an almost mathematically-minded design,” says Jason Kai Cooper.

About Thomas Cooper Studio
Creative partners Sally Thomas Cooper and Jason Kai Cooper, long known for fresh, modern lighting for home and hospitality through their ventures Luxe and Lusive, founded Thomas Cooper Studio to explore the material and sculptural essence of lighting.
The Thomas Cooper Studio collection represents a multilayered, multifaceted collaboration between Jason and Sally. Materials and techniques join forces in a search for the inner poetry of each piece: heat-formed, mouth-blown, flash-cracked glass; carved marble, alabaster, and natural stone; cast and hand-patinaed bronze; hand-polished, leaded crystal. At the same time, a study of sculptural expression creates a balance between shine and shade, density and delicacy, form and function.
Sally Thomas Cooper studied art history, music, and design in her native New Zealand and has worked as an interior designer, production designer, and marketing director for interior products. Jason Kai Cooper studied scenic and lighting design and has worked as a lighting, theatrical, and product designer. The couple have worked together since 1999 and hold Thomas Cooper Studio as the culmination of their shared design passions.
