FUTURE FORWARD | BDNY 2019
SUOMI DESIGN WORKS

Suomi Design Works designed a bar concept to be displayed at Boutique Design New York titled “Future Forward”, inspired by the work of visionary American architect Hugh Ferriss and his 1929 book The Metropolis of Tomorrow. The booth aligns with Manhattan’s newly opened Hudson Yards in celebrating the origin of the skyscrapers that define cities around the world, completed with FF&E from Montague, upholstery from Fil Doux, and lighting by HB.

SPLIT/MIX | BDNY 2018
SUOMI DESIGN WORKS

Michael Suomi of Suomi Design Works created the SPLIT/MIX booth for Boutique Design New York 2018 as a representation of the duality of America, in which a fairly homogeneous population was introduced to heterogeneous cultures and ideas, and in turn these cultures were blended into a current day melting pot that takes elements from each to identify itself. In light of current tensions, the concept is in support of the grand experiment that the country was built upon, that proposed race, religion, gender, and sexual orientation were unalienable rights, and that citizens should be recognized and accepted for their differences, while coming together in their similarities. The dichotomy between division and assimilation is reflected in a stark contrast between the two rooms of the installation, the bedroom and the salon, through the usage of dark and light.
