BLACKBARN TRANSITIONS FOOD CONCEPT TO CELEBRATE PLANT-BASED GOODNESS
| NEW YORK, NY - August 8, 2018 | BLACKBARN café & bar at Chelsea Market has updated their lunch, dinner, and dessert services to focus on mindful choices; from a large selection of delicious vegetarian dishes to unique vegan meals and housemade, gluten-free sweets, the expanded offering brings new options for Chelsea residents and visitors. Chef-Owner John Doherty emphasizes fresh, high quality fruits and vegetables for menus filled with nutritious and flavorful courses.
“With a growing demand for vegetable-based meals, we wanted to move the Chelsea Market café and bar towards being centered on wellness, with dishes that are both delectable and nourishing,” says Chef John Doherty. “We also want to reflect the BLACKBARN lifestyle with a combination of local, artisanal, and unexepected ingredients: from the surprising touch of teardrop chilis accompanying a savory charred octopus to the smoky undertones in an creamy eggplant hummus, the dishes have become a melting pot of global flavors like the connected shop’s treasure trove of international wares.”
Underscoring the beauty of fresh produce, the transformed menus rely largely on delightful plant-based proteins and wholesome ingredients, such as hen of the wood mushrooms, wheatberry, marcona almonds, honey roasted plums, tahini, baby kale, and charred brussel sprouts. In addition to the many new offerings, the café & bar added a bevy of new flavors to menu classics, livening signature dishes with innovative combinations.

The BLACKBARN lifestyle brand represents a blend of industrial, artful, refined, and understated sensibilities. It redefines luxury, from creating bespoke homes for those who desire unconventional simplicity to combining farm vernacular with elegant style in a carefully curated group of objects. The brand’s ethos and aesthetic come to life in a DUMBO, Brooklyn shop, filled with hand-selected furniture and homeware pieces, custom-designed and sourced from around the world; it takes an additional dimension at New York City’s BLACKBARN Restaurant where seasonal, rustic fare meets a modern farmhouse atmosphere.
The most recent development, BLACKBARN Chelsea Market shop, café & bar, changes the way New Yorkers dine and shop for home goods by uniting hospitality and retail, in a homewares and accessories shop with a café & bar, to create the total brand experience.
The storied system behind the brand is perhaps best captured in the book, BLACKBARN, published by ORO Editions in 2015.
