Layout is Revamped by Founders with Addition of Lounge and Urban Garden Center to Celebrate One Year in NYC’s Chelsea Market


| New York, NY - June 19, 2019 |BLACKBARN shop, cafe & bar, an innovative lifestyle destination on the ground floor of New York City’s Chelsea Market, commemorates its first year in the premier food and retail hall with the unveiling of a thematic layout by renowned designer and co-owner, Mark Zeff. Including a lounge that will act as a segue between the shop and cafe & bar, the launch of a new menu for the space with an accompanying summer cocktail program by Chef John Doherty, and an urban “Garden Center”, the redesign will further integrate BLACKBARN's distinctive relationship of homewares with dining.

The shop’s eclectic mix of luxury home goods that have been personally sourced from exotic locations by husband and wife duo, Mark and Kristen Zeff, or else custom designed, are regrouped within the shop to create easy points of discovery winding from the market-facing entrance to the new lounge. These dedicated areas start with the Garden Center, the focal point of the front entrance which provides a variety of green options for the modern city dweller such as hydroponic grow sets for herbs, vegetables, teas, and cocktail mixes. The adjacent section of hand-made and responsibly sourced children’s products hosts a rainbow of whimsical toys and accessories, while further back a home fragrance spot holds several high-end candles and room sprays, including those from BLACKBARN’s own proprietary line.

“We continue to innovate as we grow, and diversify our product offerings,” says Co-Owner & designer Mark Zeff. “The redesign will underscore this effort in addition to presenting a fresh face in honor of our one year anniversary in Chelsea Market.”

“We’ve effectively highlighted our international artisans over the past year, and are now bringing in more American makers as well as emphasizing our socially conscious products,” adds  Co-Owner Kristen Zeff. “The shop’s new design makes it easier than ever for customers to identify what products will best fit their needs, while also allowing discovery of one-of-a-kind objects.”

BLACKBARN cafe & bar will provide health-conscious meals and signature bar bites by Co-Owner and Chef John Doherty, extending food service within the space. The lounge will feature regular DJ sets at a vintage Moroccan table, as well as furnishings custom-designed by Zeff and art specially curated from his personal collection. High quality, fresh ingredients on the new menu reflect the luxe vibe created by these pieces, including savory Mangalitsa pork and creamy Calderwood cheese. Refreshing summer cocktails are being introduced alongside these dishes, including choices like the Berry White, featuring tequila, blackberry, lime, and basil, and a special Frosé with fresh strawberry and peach.

“Expanding our service into the lounge allows for two unique experiences of the food and atmosphere in our Chelsea Market location: the cafe & bar is light and bright while the lounge is warm and cozy, emulating a living room,” says Chef John Doherty. “The new lounge menu and cocktail program features our signature twists on American classics, with international and plant-based influences sprinkled throughout.”
